1895 - Farm became an extensive deer park

The farm increased to three thousand acres in 1895 when the whole became an enormous deer park - 1200 red and fallow deer, 1000 Scotch black-faced ewes and two dozen Galloway breeding cows plus followers, plus up to 1000 agistment cattle for the summer only.

By this time a "Home Farm" had been established at Lowther Newtown where there were 26 pedigree dual purpose Shorthorns (the local Cumbrian breed - an example to the by then 150 tenant farmers) and a small ornamental herd of Dexters.
